Rohit Sharma’s rotten luck with the toss continues as he tied Brian Lara’s unwanted record on Sunday, March 9. New Zealand won the toss in the Champions Trophy 2025 final and they decided to bat first as Rohit loss out on the coin flip for the 12th consecutive time in ODIs. India last won a toss in an ODI when they faced the same opposition in the ODI World Cup 2023 semi-final at the Wankhede stadium in November 2023.
Shubman Gill commented on Rohit’s luck with the toss in his press conference on Saturday and said that the team was equally confident about batting first or chasing. Rohit would comment on losing the toss and said that he doesn’t mind batting second. The Indian captain was confident of his team’s talent at chasing well.
“We’ve been here enough, batted first and bowled first, don’t really mind batting second. It hasn’t changed much, we’ve chased and won as well. It does give you a lot of confidence, takes the toss away from the game. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. That’s what we’ve spoken about in the dressing room, not to worry about the toss and to just play well, that’s what we’ve done and we have to do today as well,” said Rohit.
This was the 15th toss that Rohit had lost in all formats combined.
New Zealand have made one change to their lineup as Matt Henry misses out, while India went unchanged.
