Delhi Capitals’ batter Ashutosh Sharma credited his talks with head coach Kevin Pietersen after completing a thrilling run chase against Lucknow Super Giants in Match 4 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Ashutosh played a match-winning innings of 66* (31) to help Delhi chase down the target of 210 and start their campaign on a winning note.
The 26-year-old got involved in crucial partnerships with Tristan Stubbs (34 off 22) and Vipraj Nigam (39 off 15) and eventually took the team over the finishing line. Following his match-winning knock, Ashutosh opened up on his conversations with Pietersen and revealed that he’s always looking to learn about match-winning ability from the English cricketer.
“DC is a great franchise, the entire coaching staff is really supportive. I’m really lucky to share the dressing room with Kevin Pietersen. I talk to him a lot about his match-winning innings from his career. I have good conversations with him,” said Ashutosh in a video shared by IPL on their website.
Apart from Ashutosh, Vipraj Nigam also shone for Delhi on his IPL debut with his quick-fire cameo of 39 (15), smashing 17 fours and five sixes. He added 55 runs for the seventh wicket with Ahsutosh off just 22 balls, which kept Delhi in the hunt.
Speaking about his impactful innings, Vipraj revealed that he was given a role clarity by the team management and was elated to have lived up to their trust.
“Axar Patel, coaching staff and all the other players were with us, and they told me what I needed to do while batting in the lower order. The good thing is that I lived up to their trust. There’s no better thing than being backed by the captain and the entire team. I’m living the dream so far, hopefully it will continue ahead,” said Vipraj Nigam in the video.
Meanwhile, following their win, Delhi are fourth on the points table and will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next fixture on April 30 at the same venue.
