23-year-old left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar, who is making his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians on Monday (March 31) against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, entered his name in the history books by becoming the fourth MI and overall 10th bowler in IPL history to take a wicket on the first ball on IPL debut.

The Punjab-based cricketer was introduced to the attack in the fourth over of the match by Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya, and on the first ball, he dismissed KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane tried to play a big shot against the rookie pacer but was caught by Tilak Varma near the boundary line.

Before returning back to the dugout, Rahane scored 11 runs from 7 balls with the help of one four and one six.

He was the third KKR batter to get out on Tuesday. Before Rahane, Trent Boult clean bowled Sunil Narine for a two-ball duck in the first over, and Deepak Chahar removed Quinton de Kock for 1 run from three balls on the first legal ball of the second over.
