Kamindu Mendis creates history as 1st ambidextrous wicket-taker in IPL

Written by Abhishek Patil

Kamindu Mendis created history in the IPL during the KKR vs SRH game as he became the first ambidextrous bowler in the history of the tournament to pick up a wicket. Kamindu, who was making his debut in the IPL during the game, dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi to achieve the feat in Kolkata.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder rose to fame during the early days as he bowled spin effectively with both his left and right arms. While going up against right-handed batters, Kamindu would bowl left-arm orthodox and give the left-handed ones right-arm off-spin. During his wicket-taking over, Kamindu bowled at Raghuvanshi, Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh and showed off his bowling arsenal.

The first, third and fourth deliveries of the over was left-arm orthodox and the rest right-arm off-spin as he gave SRH a crucial breakthrough with the wicket of Raghuvanshi. One of the interesting things about Kamindu is that his bowling action is same with both arms as well.

The only other bowler we have seen using different tricks against batters was Liam Livingstone, but he bowls with his right arm. Livingstone bowls off-spin to left-handers and leg spin to the righties.
