Ambati Rayudu feels that it is Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling that is hurting them the most in the IPL 2025 season rather than their batting after the loss to Gujarat Titans on Sunday, April 6. SRH lost their 4th game on the trot on Sunday as GT defeated them by 7 wickets after a clinical performance.
Once again, the famed hard-hitting batting order failed to deliver as Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan returned to the pavilion without much impact. Despite posting a target of 152, SRH started with the ball brilliantly as they dismissed Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler early. However, they let the game slip in the middle overs once again as Washington Sundar and Shubman Gill ensured GT reached the target with 7 wickets to spare.
This has been a recurring theme for SRH as seen in their losses to LSG, DC and KKR as the bowling lacked any teeth in it. Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Rayudu said that Hyderabad lacks a good bowler who can come in and make an impact in the middle overs and tighten the screws.
“I think it’s more their bowling, I feel, than their batting. Because in the middle overs they don’t have anyone who can come and pick those crucial wickets or put a team under pressure. Look at how GT has done with Sai Kishore, Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna. They really tightened the screws,” said Rayudu.
Rayudu claimed that SRH doesn’t look like a team that can pick up wickets and they’re just being defensive with their approach. The former CSK batter said that a team cannot win the IPL with mediocre middle over bowling.
“But for SRH, I don’t see them looking to pick wickets. They’re just being defensive and trying to stop the batter from scoring a boundary. You can’t win the IPL with mediocre middle over bowling. You need really good bowlers to pick up the wickets,” said Rayudu.
SRH will now face PBKS on Saturday, April 12.
