24-year-old Priyansh Arya scripted history on Tuesday, 8 April, smashing the joint-fourth fastest century in the history of the Indian Premier League. The Punjab Kings opener, an uncapped player, launched a brutal assault on the Chennai Super Kings bowling attack, striking nine sixes and seven boundaries. The youngster received a standing ovation from the entire Punjab Kings dugout, with team co-owner Preity Zinta visibly thrilled by the breathtaking knock.
Arya, who had famously hit six sixes in a Delhi Premier League match last year, was at it again-effortlessly clearing the ropes against some of the finest T20 bowlers. After taking R Ashwin apart in two expensive overs, the young batter turned his attention to Matheesha Pathirana, one of the most feared death bowlers in the format. From 80 off 35 deliveries, Priyansh smashed three sixes and a boundary off Pathirana to bring up his maiden IPL century-the fastest ever scored against the Super Kings.
He hit the second fastest hundred by an Indian after Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball hundred against Mumbai Indians in 2010.
It was a remarkable innings from Priyansh, who bounced back emphatically after a first-ball duck against the Rajasthan Royals just days earlier. Against the Super Kings, he went on a fearless boundary-hitting spree, showcasing both skill and temperament.
FASTEST HUNDREDS IN IPL HISTORY
- Chris Gayle – 30 balls vs Pune Warriors in 2013 in Bangalore
- Yusuf Pathan – 37 balls vs Mumbai Indians in 2010 in Mumbai

- Travis Head – 39 balls vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2024 in Bengaluru

With this knock, Priyansh became only the eighth uncapped player in IPL history to score a hundred, joining an elite club that includes the likes of Shaun Marsh and Manish Pandey. Interestingly, the last uncapped player to achieve this feat was none other than his opening partner, Prabhsimran Singh, in 2023.
