England’s new white-ball captain Harry Brook said he wants to focus his national duties and rest, rather thn play franchise cricket.
“Having this period after deciding to pull out of the IPL was the right decision for me. It wasn’t an easy decision, obviously, but I’ve got to try and manage my workload. I’ve played a hell of a lot of cricket over the last year and a half and it’s only going to be more going forward,” Harry Brook was quoted as saying by ICC.
“I’m not sure how much franchise cricket I’ll be playing in the near future but my priority is definitely playing for England and trying to play as much cricket for England as I can,” he added.
In an interview, Harry Brook said that no sum of money will make him rethink choosing England over franchise cricket, like the IPL.
“Definitely not at the minute,” Brook told Cricinfo.
“I just want to play cricket for England, represent my country like I have over the last few years and hopefully have a big impact on the side moving forward,” he said.
“It’s my priority – England is the way forward for me and franchise cricket can almost take a step back for a little while. At the end of the day I enjoy playing cricket for England more than anything else so, yeah, to lose a little bit of money here and there I’d take that any day to play for England.
“I haven’t completely given up franchise cricket. But in the near future, I don’t see a way with the schedule that I’m going to have much time to play on the franchise circuit,” he added.
Harry Brook was appointed as England’s white-ball captain, on Monday, after Jos Buttler stepped down after their group stage exit from the ICC Champions Trophy.
