Virat Kohli continued his dream run to become only the sixth Indian batsman after Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammad Azahruddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Murali Vijay to aggregate over 400 runs in a Test series in England.
Gavaskar had scored 542 runs from four Tests in 1979 with a best of 221. Mohammad Azharuddin had scored 426 runs from three Tests in 1990.
In 2002, Dravid amassed 602 runs from four Tests with a best of 217. He had scored three hundreds on that tour. Nine years later in 2011, Dravid had another impressive series in England, scoring 461 runs including three hundreds.
Besides Dravid, Tendulkar also scored over 400 runs twice in a series in England. In 1996, he was the highest scorer with 428 runs from three matches.
Four years after the horror tour of England, when Kohli scored only 134 runs from 10 in innings, he stormed past the 400-run mark in only six innings.
Virat Kohli announced his intention with a sublime 149 and 51 at Edbgaston. He got only 23 and 17 at Lord’s in the second Test but bounced back at Trent Bridge with 97 in the first inning and another half-century in the second.
