Indian skipper Virat Kohli lauded his sensational 95-ball 123 against Australia at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on Friday calling it ‘one of my finest hundreds’ after India’s poor 32-run defeat. However, he did rue his dismissal to Adam Zampa following which the momentum shifted in favour of the Aussies. Kohli’s stellar innings in Ranchi, where he scored his 41st ODI century, kept India steady in the chase to Australia’s target of 314 runs.
“In terms of hitting the ball, it was one of my finest hundreds. I just felt really clear in my head from ball one. Even after three wickets, I thought I should play my game and not think of what happens if I play my shots. I was very disappointed when I got out. I really thought we had a chance with the difference being 20 between balls and runs,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.
Kohli, however, praised his bowling combination for the battle they put forth while he asserted that he would look to avoid anymore batting collapse in the successive games of the series.
“We were in the game, especially how we pulled back things in the last 10 overs. We thought we would be chasing 350 plus with the way Australia were going. I think they batted outstandingly well in the first 40 overs, but we pulled it back in the last 10 after Maxi’s (Glenn Maxwell) run out,” Kohli said.
Australia’s win in Ranchi implied that the series is very much alive.
