In the opening day of the three-match Test series opener versus New Zealand in Perth, Marnus Labuschagne registered his third consecutive ton in the longest format of the game. Riding on a brilliant Ashes 2019, Labuschagne has made the most of his form with three back-to-back hundreds in the Australian summer. From the Pakistan series till now, Labuschagne has scores of 185, 162 and 110 not out.
Coming out to bat at No. 3, Labuschagne stitched an impressive 132-run stand with Steve Smith to take Australia to 248/4 at stumps. He also reached his hundred with a stylish six off Mitchell Santner before jumping in delight to celebrate his heroics.
Depicting on his brave shot selection while battling the nervous nineties, Labuschagne told after the day’s play, “The boys were teasing me through the week (smiles), so to get one away like that, I’m really stoked. ”
Labuschagne has a knack of applying himself in the middle. He is a busy customer who thrives hard for his runs and doesn’t go for the aerial strokes more often. Hence, the batsman surprised many with a six to reach the triple-figure mark.
Further, Labuschagne has also become the joint fourth-fastest Australian to 1000 Test runs. To this, he stated, “Oh, I didn’t know that stat to be honest. Good that I’m batting well, but more important that Australia are winning games.”
