The Big Bash League game between Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers was abandoned on Saturday due to poor air quality and visibility at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. Air pollution has become a major issue in world cricket with several games getting affected due to it in countries like India and Australia.
Recently, air pollution in Delhi had become a concern in the build-up to a T20I game between India and Bangladesh in the city. However, the game was conducted successfully but reports later claimed that a few Bangladesh players were spotted vomiting on the field and had breathing problems due to the bad air quality. On Saturday, another such instance was witnessed in the ongoing Big Bash League.

Sydney Thunder won the toss and decided to bowl first in their clash against Strikers in the BBL season 09. The first innings was completed without any interruptions despite poor visibility at the stadium. Jonathan Wells was the top-scorer for Strikers as he slammed an unbeaten 55 off 32 balls. Jake Weatherald (42) and Alex Carey (45) also played two crucial knocks to guide Strikers to a good total of 161 runs.
In reply, Thunder could only bat for 4.2 overs and managed to score 40 runs before the match was called off due to the degrading air quality. The two teams shared a point each.
