New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was extremely happy with his team’s performance after they beat India in the second Test to sweep the series 2-0 in Christchurch on Monday.
The Black Caps became the first side to whitewash India in a Test series in 8 years and in the process, also surpassed England and Pakistan to grab the 3rd spot on the ICC World Test Championship table. The win also took them to 2nd in the ICC Test rankings.
The final Test at the Hagley Oval Stadium ended in the second session on Day 3 after New Zealand comfortably chased down the paltry target of 132 with openers Tom Blundell (55) and Tom Latham (52) scoring crucial half-centuries.
“Outstanding feeling. Fairly sporting surfaces in both Tests. Bowlers had to put it in the right areas, but this pitch played well on all the days, even though history suggests it flattens out after doing a bit initially. I think therein lies the value of the 30-40 run partnerships.
“I don’t think the end result shows how tight that match was. We saw how many times the ball beat the bat. A fantastic series from outside and the way the guys stuck in. India are a world-class side and to beat them is quite satisfying,” Williamson said at the post-match presentation.
Williamson was also asked about Virat Kohli’s celebrations, he simply laughed it off. “It is Virat and he is passionate on the field. I don’t think we need to read too much into it,” Williamson told PTI.
