With governments across the world struggling to fight the coronavirus pandemic, a number of high profile public figures have stepped up to aid the struggle against the viral outbreak. India is no different with many sports and movie stars coming forward in support. On Tuesday, it was the turn of star opener Rohit Sharma to join the cause as he donated a sum total of INR 80 lakh to help India get “back on feet”.
Out of the INR 80 lakh, Rohit has decided to donate INR 45 lakh to the PM-CARES Fund, INR 25 lakh to CM Relief Fund while INR 5 lakh each towards Feeding India and welfare of stray dogs.

I’ve done my bit to donate 45lakhs to #PMCaresFunds, 25lakhs to #CMReliefFund Maharashtra, 5lakhs to @FeedingIndia and 5lakhs to #WelfareOfStrayDogs.Let’s get behind our leaders and support them @narendramodi @CMOMaharashtra”: tweeted Rohit on Tuesday.
India skipper Virat Kohli and his actor wife Anushka Sharma on Monday pledged their support to the Prime Minster and the Maharashtra Chief Minster’s relief funds to combat the dreaded disease.
Among other Indian sportspersons, former captain Sourav Ganguly and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar donated Rs 50 lakh each, while world badminton champion PV Sindhu contributed Rs 10 lakh.
