As entire world is on standstill due to Coronavirus Pandemic and all the Sporting events have been effectivelly cancelled or postponed, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) has released payments for ongoing construction work at Khetterama and few other National Development Corporation (NDC) projects, Cricket Age reliably learns.
Cricket Age had published on April 15 itself that SLC summoned it’s account department employees to report to work to release some emergency fund for the contractors.
According to the sources, for two consecutive days – Thursday and Friday – Account department employees reached at SLC headquarter at Maitland Place to complete the task.
“NDC chairman Kamal Dharmasiri was also there along with account department employees. Even though board ExCo member Sujeewa Godaliyadda, who oversees construction work, was not there, but his secratary Anne Christopher attended the proceedings” an insider at SLC, who was present in emergency gathering, told Cricket Age.
It is noteworthy that SLC is remained closed since March 14, when Country’s president Gotabaya Rajapaksa announced nationwide lockdown to control the spreading of the virus. Since, Board employees, as per the government guideline, have been told to work from the home until further notice.
The Sri Lanka government has extended nationwide curfew many times in past one month, in order to control the virus. SLC has also granted LKR 25 Million to country’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for this purpose!
