Former Pakistan pacer, Shoaib Akhtar, seems to have found himself in trouble for his outspoken behaviour on social media, especially with regards to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The iconic cricketer has reportedly been pulled up by the cybercrime unit for ‘spreading propaganda and false allegations against the PCB’.
As per Cricket Pakistan, the development came after PCB reportedly filed a complaint with the cybercrime unit of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in relation to the social media posts targeting their Chief Executive Wasim Khan. The complaint from the cricket board came against former governing board members Shakeel Shaikh, Noman Butt and Tariq Sarwar, with shaikh specifically accused of using inappropriate language against Khan.
The PCB has been eager to correct its image after several former cricketers including Akhtar have been critical of their methodologies and have spoken strongly against their cricketing system. The Pakistan board is determined to not let former players or board members create a negative perception of them in the public.
Akhtar had earlier called PCB’s legal counsel Tafazzul Rizvi “legally defective, merit-less and misconceived” while also calling the board inept following the three-year ban that was imposed on batsman Umar Akmal for failing to report multiple approaches of corruption.
Despite being warned to retract his statement or else face legal proceedings, Akhtar refused to change his stance on the matter and said: “Whatever I said on my channel was for the betterment of Pakistan cricket and to point out to the board where it needed to put things right. Whatever I said about Rizvi was based on my personal interaction with him.”
