Sri Lanka Cricket Planing to Stage T10 League In December

Written by Sumit Seth

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) is planning to host a T10 tournament in December, involving national and overseas players, Cricket Age reliably learns.

The top SLC officials are on the opinion of organizing the league right after the conclusion of the Lanka Premier League (LPL), which is scheduled to be played from November 14 to December 7.

“As the LPL will be concluded by the first week of December, the foreign players, who will participate in the League, will be in Sri Lanka. So, we are planning to host the T10 tournament with those same players, along with our national and domestic players” a top SLC administrator told Cricket Age.

Originally, Sri Lanka is scheduled to play two test match series in South Africa in December. As per the FTP, the first test will be starting from December 26. However, due to the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, SLC is reluctant to go ahead with the tour.

“The Situation there (South Africa) is not good and we are reluctant to expose our players amid Coronavirus scare. So, the best option for us is to postpone the tour and instead play a T10 tournament at home” the top administrator added.

It is noteworthy that Sri Lanka remains as one of the least affected country in the World from the deadly virus. The SLC has already successfully organized Major League Tier ‘A’ domestic tournament and the country is considered as safest place to play international cricket.

The LPL was originally scheduled for this month. However, the health authorities direction of following a 14-days quarantine period forced SLC to reschedule it in November-December.
