Former India cricketer-turned-cricket expert Sanjay Manjrekar is known for speaking openly on selection issues. From calling Ravindra Jadeja bits and pieces player to questioning KL Rahul’s inclusion in the Test squad, Manjrekar’s views have also led to debates on a number of occasions. His comments during the 2019/20 season were also one of the reasons why the BCCI dropped him from the commentary panel.
Despite not being part of the panel, Manjrekar continues to share his views on various platforms. In his tweet on social media, Manjrekar has now questioned Ravindra Jadeja’s inclusion in the T20 squad for the Australia tour. Replying to a user on Twitter, Manjrekar agreed that Axar Patel would have been a better option than Jadeja.
Jadeja’s poor run in white-ball cricket saw him being dropped from the T20I squad in 2017. He returned in the shortest format in the 2019/20 season and had also impressed Manjrekar with his performance on the New Zealand tour. In the ongoing IPL season, Jadeja has scored 232 runs and has five wickets. The star all-rounder has been hogging much limelight for his late cameos with the bat.
A few days after the selection, Jadeja scored an unbeaten 31 off 11 to lead Chennai Super Kings to a last-ball win over Kolkata Knight Riders.
Axar, who has been away from the national team for two years now, isn’t a regular in Delhi Capitals’ playing XI. He has 66 runs and eight wickets in 11 matches. His only batting heroics came against CSK, when he hit an unbeaten 21 off just 5 balls.
