Australian batting sensation Marnus Labuschagne waged a lone war against a rampant Indian bowling attack on Day 2 of the first Test at Adelaide, scoring 47 off 119 to take his team close to the 200-run mark. Though Australia went on to concede a 53-run first innings lead, Labuschagne did manage to leave his mark.
Speaking to Cricbuzz at the end of second day’s play Labuschagne also expressed his interest in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having seen his countryman including Steve Smith, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, etc. earn both money and fame from the T20 league.
“I have been interested in the IPL for a long time, always following and how the teams are going. I really want to be involved in the IPL at some stage but I think the time will come when I’m ready for that opportunity. And I think you don’t need to always rush these things.
“You know the way my career has developed in the last year has been quite substantial. It’s gone real quick. Probably a year and a half ago, I wouldn’t even be in contention for the IPL but now I would love to be over there,” Labuschagne said.
Labuschagne really came into the scene in Australian cricket as the concussion substitute for Steve Smith in 2019 during the Ashes series, having first made his debut in 2018 against Pakistan. Since the Ashes audition, the right-handed batsman hasn’t just cemented a place for himself in the Test team but is also making forward strides in the limited-overs formats.
Labuschagne has since scored 1,459 runs in the longest format at an average of 63.43 including 4 hundreds. In 13 ODIs, he has 473 runs to his name at an average of 39.41 including a hundred.
