Rishabh Pant has yet again scored a remarkable innings in Australia. While the 23-year-old Indian wicketkeeper fell short of 3 runs of his 3rd Test hundred, he set some records in Australia that might have just guaranteed a position for the next tour.

Pant, who during his 36 in the previous innings of the Sydney Test, reached 400 Test runs in Australia on Saturday. On Monday, he went past former India batsman Syed Kirmani’s record for holding most Test runs among Asian wicketkeepers in Australia. While the former Indian wicketkeeper had 471 runs down under, with his 97, Pant’s tally in Australia’s stands at 512 runs at an average of 56.88.

Among Indian wicketkeepers with most runs in the 4th innings of a Test match, Rishabh Pant has his name appear twice at the top of the list. His 97 from Day 5 of the ongoing Sydney Test is second to his 114 at The Oval, against England, in 2018. MS Dhoni’s 76 not out against England at Lord’s in 2007 and Parthiv Patel’s unbeaten 67 against England at home in 2016 come next in the list.

On scoring 36 on Day 3 of the Sydney Test, Pant scored a unique record of scoring 25 or more in 9 consecutive Test innings in Australia, going past England’s Wally Hammond, India’s Rusi Surti, and former West Indies captain Vivian Richards.

With scores of 25 28 36 30 39 33 159* 29, 36 and 97, Pant now has 10 consecutive innings of at least 25 runs down under. He played all the Tests in India’s victorious campaign down under in the 2018-19 series. The 23-year-old also completed 400 runs in Test cricket in Australia he did it with an average of over 50.
