Former Australia captain Steve Smith loves batting against India. While his current Test average versus India is 72.58, it was beyond 80 before the start of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21 edition.
While Smith has ended his run with the willow in the series with two half-centuries and a solitary ton, the right-hander did fail on a few occasions or couldn’t convert his start into anything significant. Despite all this, the 31-year-old achieved a new feat in his Test career on Day 4 of the fourth and final Test at The Gabba, Brisbane on Monday (January 18).
During the course of his 55 in hosts’ second essay, off 74 balls, Smith became the fastest to 7,500 runs in the longest format of the game, going past the likes of former Indian stars such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, etc.

Smith, who recently also won the Test Player of the Decade, remains part of the Fab Four of the modern era, which also comprises Indian captain Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson and Joe Root. Among them, Root remains ahead in terms of tons but Smith and Kohli are tied in terms of most tons.
