Former legendary Sri Lanka captain and Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene on Wednesday arrived in Mumbai and has begun a week-long quarantine ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mumbai Indians are likely to shift to Chennai by next week to begin their training camp. The five-time champions are still in Mumbai and are waiting for all the players to join their bio-bubble before shifting base to Chennai where they will play their initial IPL matches.
Four of Mumbai Indians playing eleven mainstays; Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav are currently part of India’s ODI squad against England. With matches being played in Pune, the players can directly travel to Mumbai and enter the bio-bubble.
Meanwhile, their lead fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah on the other hand, has taken a break for “personal reasons” and is expected to join the team directly in Chennai.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) SOP’s for IPL 2021 if players, who are part of ongoing India vs England ODI series, directly enter the IPL franchises bio-bubble they will not have to undergo the week-long quarantine. However, the rule does not apply to anyone who takes a break after the series gets over.
