Young Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. The selectors have named Mayank Agarwal as his replacement for the remaining two matches.
Gaikwad had complained of wrist pain ahead of the start of the series opener in Lucknow and was examined by the BCCI Medical Team followed by an MRI scan, which was conducted by a specialist consultation. He will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of his injury.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee added Mayank to the Indian squad for the remaining two T20Is. He has already joined the team in Dharamsala.
Gaikwad had played the third T20I match of the series against West Indies in Kolkata last week where he had scored just four runs while opening the innings alongside Ishan Kishan.
Talking about the series, India have taken a 1-0 lead following a 62-run win against Sri Lanka in Lucknow on Thursday. Ishan had scored a stunning knock of 98 while Shreyas Iyer pulled off a fiery 28-ball 57 as India finished with 199 for two in 20 overs.
In response, Sri Lanka failed to get off to a decent start after two powerplay wickets from Bhuveshwar Kumar reduced them to two down. The visitors were eventually restricted to 137 for six. Venkatesh Iyer picked two more wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal picked one.
If India win on Saturday, the Men in Blue will script a hat-trick of T20I series win with their 100th win in the format.
