Team India batsman and the new Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper KL Rahul is set to begin a new journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after being with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the last four years. Rahul was one of the top performers for the franchise from 2018 to 2021 scoring 2,548 runs in 55 games for the side at an average of 54.9.
Rahul captained the Punjab side in the last two seasons and even though he was able to score runs consistently and had 600-plus years he couldn’t lead the 2014 finalists to a spot in the playoffs. Despite being the side’s best performer, Rahul moved on and wasn’t retained by the Kings ahead of the mega auction. After which, he was picked by one of the two new franchises, LSG in the draft and was named the skipper of the side.
Recently, he opened up about the decision of leaving PBKS and admitted that it was a very tough call but a necessary one as he wanted to move in a different direction.
Speaking to Red Bull Cricket, the 29-year old said, “I have been with them for four years and I’ve had a great run with them. Just wanted to see what’s in store for me and if there’s a new journey for me. It was a tough call obviously. I have been attached to Punjab for a long time. I wanted to see if I can do something else.”
