In a significant development, the Galle District Court has suspended Galle Cricket Club (GCC) present office bearers with Immediate effect, Cricket Age exclusively learns. Accordingly, Sri Lanka’s premier business tycoon Dilith Jayaweera will be taking over day to day affairs as club patron!
Last month, Galle CC Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect the office bearers for next two years was postponed, which was originally scheduled on June 29. President Kumar Samarasinghe led administration had citied ongoing Inquiries over various matters at Sports Ministry as the reason for the postponement.
However, it has exclusively learnt that the opposite camp challenged the AGM postponement decision at Galle District Court. Hearing the case, the court has now ordered the Immediate suspension of Samarasinghe led administration.
“As per the court order, Mr. Dilith Jayaweera will be taking as Patron. In meantime, he has to appoint a five members Interim committee to run the club untill the election” a source, who is close to the development, told Cricket Age.
In addition, court has also Instructed to activate 465 memberships of the club and conduct the election with the participation of all these members.
