The economic crisis in Sri Lanka hasn’t left anyone unaffected. Be it the common man or celebrities, everyone’s going through a rough time in managing the day-to-day activities in the country. The shortage of fuel has been one of the biggest problems that the country is facing. Even cricketer Chamika Karunaratne hasn’t found getting fuel easy.
Even when the fuel arrives, the supply is so limited that people have had to stand in queues for days. Such was the case with Karunaratne as he went to a petrol pump to refill his car for upcoming cricketing assignments. He also thanked India for lending a helping hand in these times of crisis to the country.
“We’ve to go for practices in Colombo & to different other places as club cricket season is on but I’ve been standing in queue for fuel for past 2 days. I got it filled for Rs 10,000 which will last 2-3 days…”
“India is like a brother country & they are helping us a lot. I thank them so much. We have problems. They are supporting us when we are struggling. Thank you so much for that. Thank you for everything. We will get better and better,” he added.
Despite their economic struggles, Sri Lanka has been able to get cricketing activities going. Recently, the Australian cricket team had visited the island nation for an all-format bilateral series. The assignment saw successful conclusion and the Lankans even thanked the Australian players for not abandoning the tour amid economic chaos.
