Rohit Sharma recovers from back spasm, set to lead in USA T20Is against West Indies

Rohit Sharma is fit and ready to lead Team India in the 4th and 5 T20I against West Indies to be played in USA on August 6 and 7. The India captain suffered an injury scare during the 3rd T20I on Tuesday (August 2) and he walked off the field after facing just five balls. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Rohit was hopeful of recovering from the back issue in time. And it seems like he is fully fit.

The Indian captain has recovered from the back issue and will be available for the last two matches. The news comes as a big relief for the Men in Blue as India don’t have an experienced opener in their line-up and Rohit has the onus to give flying starts to the team. Team India has now changed its approach in white-ball cricket and the batsmen now look for scoring shots right from ball 1.

India are leading the series 2-1 and a win in any of the last two T20Is will see them clinch the series. There can be a case that the visitors can rest Rohit if India seal the series in the 4th game.

Hardik Pandya has been assisting Rohit since the start of the series and will lead the side if the team management decides to rest the captain. It also remains to be seen if India make a change in the playing XI or not.

There are quite a few players who are yet to play on the tour and are waiting for their chances. Harshal Patel’s availability is also a big question going into the fixture. The bowling all-rounder hasn’t played any fixture in the series due to a rib injury. He was unavailable for selection for the 2nd and 3rd T20I. He might be fit for the penultimate fixture.
