Veteran fast bowler Steven Finn reckoned that England need to strike a balance between attack and defence in order to taste success in Test cricket on a consistent basis. Earlier this year, Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum took charge of the team after Joe Root and Chris Silverwood’s departure from their respective roles.
Thereafter, England made their intentions clear where Jonny Bairstow’s brilliance took them to a 3-0 victory over New Zealand. The Lions also got the better of Jasprit Bumrah’s India in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Finn, who played 36 Tests from 2010 to 2016, was of the opinion that England are learning to put their heads down and respect quality bowling attacks.
“England wanted to buck the trend with the way the team was playing in the last 18 months. They have done that and now they have to find an equilibrium. They are starting to do that and learn when to soak up pressure against high-quality bowling,” Finn was quoted as saying on BBC Test Match Special.
