India opener Shikhar Dhawan slipped down in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings after a string of low scores in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against South Africa. Dhawan dropped down two places despite India’s series win against South Africa. The India opener is currently ranked at No.17 with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom also dropped down the rankings a bit after missing the ODI series, the only Indian batters ahead of him.
Quinton de Kock’s poor form saw him drop down by one place, helping Imam ul Haq jump to No.2 in the batting rankings in ODIs. Shreyas Iyer, Heinrich Klaasen and Sanju Samson were the other big movers in the top 100 of the batting rankings. Kuldeep Yadav gained seven places to get into the top 25 after a four-wicket haul in the third ODI.
Dhawan was happy that his team was able to show a lot of character on tough pitches during the three-match series against South Africa. After losing the first game in Lucknow, India clinched the series with two one-sided victories over the Proteas.
“The boys showed great character on such tough batting pitches. The bowlers were clinical today,” Dhawan said after the match.
