Former India captain Virat Kohli stormed back into the top 10 of the ICC Rankings for batters in men’s T20Is after his heroic knock against Pakistan in their Super 12 opener of T20 World Cup in Melbourne. Kohli has jumped 6 places to reach the 9th spot in the batting charts.
Virat Kohli, who had held the numero uno spot in the past, hit a stunning 82 not out off 53 balls as he pulled off an improbable chase in front of 90,000 fans at the MCG against their arch-rivals on Sunday, October 23.
Kohli had fallen outside the top 10 for the first time in months in November 2021 after a disappointing run in the T20 World Cup last year. However, Kohli returned to the top 10 in February earlier this year. But the former captain’s form nosedived in the shortest format of the game, leading to another slip in the T20I rankings.
Virat Kohli was ranked as low as No. 35 in the ICC T20I Batting charts in August 2022.
Kohli had managed just 81 runs in 4 T20Is in 2022 before the Asia Cup but the World Cup winner turned it around in the continental tournament, hitting his maiden T20I ton against Afghanistan. Kohli carried on the good form in the home series against Australia and South Africa before lighting up the MCG on Sunday.
