Can’t think about the past: Naseem Shah says loss against India didn’t affect Pakistan mentally

Fast bowler Naseem Shah reckoned that Pakistan left the defeat against India behind them going into their remaining T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 matches. Back on Sunday, October 23, Pakistan lost to Rohit Sharma’s India by four wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The match went right down to the wire where Mohammad Nawaz failed to defend 16 runs in the final over. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 53-ball 82 denied the Men in Green a crucial victory.

“No, I don’t think so, because everyone is professional and everyone knows about oneself. We lost against India, but I don’t think anyone is thinking about the India game because as a professional you can’t think about the past when you lose, then especially, you can’t be thinking that,” Shah was quoted as saying in the pre-match press conference.

“After the India match, everyone was positive,” he added.

After losing to India, Pakistan faced a one-run defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe, captained by Craig Ervine. Babar Azam and Co. registered their first win after they defeated the Netherlands by six wickets in their third Super 12 match.

Pakistan are now set to face Temba Bavuma’s South Africa on Thursday, November 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The Men in Green need a win to have any chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
