In a major setback to Sri Lanka Cricket, it has emerged that Fast bowler Dhammika Prasad is not yet ready to make a comeback into the national team. Chief Selector Graeme Labrooy confirmed that it will take an entire season for fast bowler to come back into the contention again.
“Dhammika will need to play one whole season before he could be considered for the selection, as he has not bowled for a long period of time” Labrooy exclusively told Cricket Age.
Dhammika hasn’t played for Sri Lanka since October 2015, as he had been recovering from a shoulder injury.
He returned to competitive cricket recently during the domestic mercantile tournament and picked one wicket in 8 overs in his first game.
The 34-year old fast bowler has played 25 tests for Sri Lanka and has 75 wickets to his name. He had emerged as the bowling spearhead of Sri Lanka in tests, before sustaining injury during the test series against West Indies in 2015.
He was the chief architect in Sri Lanka’s one of the greatest overseas test triumph, when team whitewashed England on their home soil in 2014, under the captaincy of Angelo Mathews.
Dhammika unavailability could be a big blow to Sri Lanka before the three match test series against India.
Sri Lanka to play three tests, three ODIs and three T20s in 37 days long tour. The first test will be played at Historic Eden Garden, Kolkata from 16th November. Three match ODI series will be played on 10th, 13th and 17th December. The tour will end up with three t20 matches, as first match is scheduled to be played on 20th December in Cuttack.
