The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Wednesday officially filed a case In Appeal Court, challenging Country’s Sports Ministry appointed Committee’s report on National Team’s T20 World Cup Campaign in Australia, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.
Sri Lanka, who had to go through the qualifiers to make it to the Super-12s of the tournament had an underwhelming campaign in Australia, finishing fourth in the group table.
Their campaign was marred with controversy, first after losing to Namibia in the first qualifier game and then later with batter Danushka Gunathilaka getting arrested for sexual assault right after the team’s exit from the tournament.
An independent panel, appointed by Country’s Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, investigated Sri Lanka’s off-field behaviour during the World Cup and submitted a 63-pages report last week.
The Panel, in report, specifically highlighted controversial Born Again saga, Board CEO Ashley De Silva’s travelling, spending on tickets and allowances. The Panel also mentioned in the report that the board must spend wisely, as Country is facing deep financial crisis!
However, top brass at Maitland Place found the report as a direct attempt to dissolve their democratically elected administration, thus has decided to challenge the report in Appeal Court!
“The report is completely biased and has hidden agendas. The committee was supposed to investigate players related Incidents, but it went out of its scope and ended up giving lectures on Board spending, Ignoring the fact that its an autonomous body” a top SLC official told Cricket Age.
The case is expected to be taken up tomorrow.
