At least three former Australian players have shown their interest to take over Head Coach post in Sri Lanka Team, Cricket Age Learns.
Currently Nic Pothas has been appointed the interim coach of Sri Lanka team, after Graham Ford stepped down from the post following team’s poor showing in Champions Trophy in June.
“Though SLC haven’t finalized anyone at yet, three former Australian players have shown their interest for the post” A Top Official told Cricket Age.
Further, it has learnt that Former Australian player Dean Jones and fast bowler Jason Gillespie are the front runners for the Head Coach Post. Andrew McDonald is another Australian, who is in the contention.
Dean Jones has played 52 tests and 162 ODI’s for Australia, and has been recently appointed as the Coach of Afghanistan.
Gillespie, meanwhile, is currently contracted to Big Bash League franchise Adelaide Strikers as Head Coach and is the Coach-in-demand following his stint with English County Yorkshire. During his association with Yorkshire, Gillespie not only secured a promotion from division Two, but also won two consecutive County Championship titles for the team. He also had the experience of million dollar IPL, having been associated with Kings XI Punjab as bowling coach in 2011.
Andrew McDonald, on the other hand, has been associated with Victoria and Big Bash League team Melbourne Renegades. Though he played only four tests for Australia, but has been considered highly recommend Coach in the cricket fraternity.
The SLC is expected to finalize the Next head coach in the beginning of the 2018.
