Ravindra Jadeja was elated after leading Australia’s demolition with the ball as India secured a six-wicket win inside three days of the second Test to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-0 lead in the four-match series on Sunday.
Jadeja stated that playing sweep shots was not a good option against his bowling on wickets like Delhi. On a pitch where spinners ruled the roost, several Australian batsmen fluffed their sweep shots to be either bowled or lbw.
“I think I was enjoying my bowling. These wickets suit me because the oddball spins and some stay low. I knew they’d play sweeps and reverse sweeps, so my idea was just keeping it simple and straight,” Ravindra Jadeja said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Australia collapsed from 85 for the loss of two wickets to being bowled out for 113 having scored 28 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Jadeja was the destroyer-in-chief and Ravichandran Ashwin chipped in with three crucial wickets. India did have a stumble just before Lunch as KL Rahul was dismissed by Nathan Lyon giving the visitors some hope.
“I knew they were looking for runs, so the plan was just bowling into the stumps. If they make a mistake, I have a chance. Don’t think a sweep is a good option against me on this kind of wicket (laughs and walks off),” Jadeja added.
