Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Najam Sethi has decided to take a firm stance on the hosting rights for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, stating that the board is willing to bear revenue losses if the Asian Cricket Council does not accept their proposed hybrid model.
Sethi has stated that if the country refuses to participate in the Asia Cup this year, it will lose approximately USD 3 million in revenue from the tournament. The PCB chief also said that Pakistan was willing to bear the revenue loss because it was a “matter of principle” in terms of hosting the Asia Cup.
“We have made it very clear that unless the Asia Cup is held on a hybrid model like we have proposed, that is India playing its matches at an offshore venue and Pakistan hosting the remaining games at home, we will not accept any other schedule and neither play,” he said.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the Asia Cup in September, but the tournament’s location is uncertain because India has stated that it will not play in Pakistan.
“Security is no excuse for them now and we have told them if their government is not giving them clearance to play in Pakistan, show us some written proof of this,” Sethi said.
