Sri Lanka Women’s Team Coach Rumesh Ratnayake on endless ‘Holiday spree’

Written by N Krishnamurthy

Sri Lanka Women’s Team Coach Rumesh Ratnayake has repeatedly preferred ‘overseas holidays’ over national team duty since his appointment 6 months ago, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.

Ratnayake was appointed Women’s team coach in November last year on interim basis, but has reportedly been Instructed to continue.

“Since his appointment, he has always been on holidays in between team’s preparation. The coach of a national team has to interact with the players and staff on daily basis. However, Ratnayake is never there to monitor players” a source told Cricket Age.

According to sources, Ratnayake was appointed with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) CEO Ashley De Silva recommendations, as they shares close bonding.

“The fact was ignored that he is outdated as a coach and his family lives in Australia, thus it’s impossible for him to spend much time with the players and coaching staff” the source added.

It has also learnt that since Lanka de Silva was not in good book of Ratnayake, he used his power and transferred him to A team.
