Travis Head scripted history on Wednesday, June 7 as he became the first batter to hit a century in the final of the World Test Championship final. Head got to a quickfire hundred in just 106 balls as he helped Australia dominate India on the opening day of the WTC 2023 final at the Oval in London.
Notably, only two batters had gone past the fifty-run mark in the final of the inaugural edition of the WTC in 2021 where India lost to New Zealand. Devon Conway hit a fifty in the first innings while Kane Williamson hit a fifty in the second innings. Ajinkya Rahane had top-scored for India with 49 in the first innings in the WTC final.
It was also Travis Head’s first Test century against India and first Test century in England (and away from home) as he signaled his intentions ahead of the upcoming Ashes series. Head has been one of Australia’s most consistent batters in the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship cycle. Playing an aggressor’s role in the middle-order order for Australia to perfection, Head hit 2 hundreds in 2022 and 3 fifties as he scored 655 runs last year in 10 Tests.
Head continued from where he left as he was in fine touch for Australia against India on Wednesday.
