Majority of Sports Ministers in Sri Lanka have always been puppets, manipulators, biased or incompetent.
Fast forward to 2023 and Sri Lanka has Roshan Ranasinghe as Sports Minister! He has marketed himself as a messiah of revolution!But in his quest to achieve his goal as Sports Minister, Rugby and Football have already been banned in Sri Lanka by the respective global bodies!
Back to Cricket, Island’s most cherished game, the situation remains equally bleak!To expose Maitland Place top hierarchy, he initiated a comprehensive audit report, focussing SLC’s spending during last year’s T20 World Cup in Australia!
However, now as audit report draft has deliberately been leaked to media and is in public domain, Instead of focusing on it, Minister is doing comedy!
As, following media trial and public outrage, SLC chief Shammi Silva said – my administration is ready to resign, if the allegation can be proved – Minister must focus on that, Instead of talking about Cricket Board constitution, LPL permission and other X, Y, Z episodes!
Also, his focus shifting on other topics raises some serious questions. Is there nothing in the audit report, as it was widely claimed? Are those revelations against SLC is not good enough for Minister to take it to the next level – parliament? Was audit report just for public humiliation of SLC top brass?
So, it’s high time for Minister to prove the authenticity of his audit report Initiative, without talking nonsense!
It’s time for Island’s president Ranil Wickramasinghe also to closely monitor Minister! Because of him, Rugby and Football have already been banned! And if Cricket faces the same fate, then It will be end of road for Sri Lanka in Sport, as much talked about political Interference in the game was discussed during last ICC meeting in Durban earlier this month!
