Sri Lanka’s Consultant Coach Mahela Jayawardene is expected to join the national team on October 5 for the 50 Overs World Cup, Cricket Age Exclusively learns.
The Dasun Shanaka led team arrived In India on Tuesday (September 26). However, due to some other Important commitments, Mahela didn’t travel with the team. Cricket Age understands that the former captain, Instead, left for the South Africa for a T20 league draft!
“As of now, he is likely to join the team on October 5, two days before the first match” a team source told Cricket Age.
Earlier, Mahela had skipped recently concluded Asia Cup as well. Later, he was seen with the team during practice session, barely few hours after Asia Cup Final drubbing!
The 13h edition of the ICC tournament to be held in India from October 5 to November 19. England are the defending champion, who won the 2019 edition by defeating New Zealand in the final.
