The International Cricket Council (ICC) is notorious for melodramatic jokes! Deportation of Pakistani Sports anchor Zainab Abbas, scheduling of the World Cup are nothing sort of laughable jokes! Dasun Shanaka’s injury, then him ruled out of the ongoing World Cup and then allowing him to remain with the team in India as “travelling reserve” is the latest joke from the governing body!
Shanaka was ruled out due to a right thigh muscle injury, he sustained during Sri Lanka’s match against Pakistan on 10 October. The official statement was given that injury needs three weeks to recover! Subsequently, allrounder Chamika Karunaratne was announced as a replacement of Shanaka.
Now, In an absolute joke, it has been announced that Shanaka will remain with the team as travelling reserve!
Obviously, it raises many questions!
Is Shanaka really Injured? Or is it a fake one?
Questions raises against ICC’s Event Technical committee also – comprising of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket & ETC Chair), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Hemang Amin (Acting CEO – BCCI), Gaurav Saxena (General Manager – Operations, BCCI), Russel Arnold (Independent Representative), Simon Doull (Independent Representative)
In the case of Injury, the reports need to be obtained from a neutral doctor as well. Was that report obtained in Shanaka’s case?
Also, how can committee allow Shanaka to remain with Sri Lanka Team as travelling reserve, when his replacement was approved by them itself?
Then, if Shanaka is really Injured, he must be sent for rehabilitation, Instead of making him a travelling reserve!
Or, as Shanaka claimed few weeks ago that his leadership qualities are more important than being him in the team as a player, so he was kept as a “reserve consultant” (In case of original consultant coach Mahela Jayawardene gets Injured)? Because, Sri Lanka is anyway famous for having such consultants!
