Ashley de Silva, the CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has joined Sri Lanka Team ahead of England clash in Bangalore today, Cricket Age reliably learns.
With one win in four matches so far largely due to multiple injuries, Kusal Mendis led Sri Lanka is currently languishing at 7th place in the points table. In this scenario, and considering other results in the tournament, today’s match has become a knockout game for the Island.
The official reason was given that Ashley has arrived in Bangalore to boost the morale of the team.
“He arrived Yesterday morning. He is there to talk to the support staff, players and keep everyone on the same page” a team Insider told Cricket Age.
It has also learnt that there were few disagreement in the dressing room over the Inclusion of Angelo Mathews in the playing XI against England. While Coach Chris Silverhood and Consultant Coach Mahela Jayawardene were in favour of playing Mathews, Chief Selector Pramodaya Wickramasinghe wanted to stick with allrounder Chamika Karunaratne Instead. In this scenario, Ashley presence eased the decision making for the all important game.
