England captain Jos Buttler was very disappointed with the batters’ performance in the World Cup clash against India as they failed to chase down the 230-run target and were bundled out for 129. It was another flop show from the English batters as they failed to stand up on an occasion where the bowlers set the platform for them to get the second win of the tournament. But it was a dismal performance as only one of their batter managed to cross the 20-run mark.
Buttler said it was the same old story for them in the batting department as he was disappointed with the loss in a low-scoring chase.
“Very disappointed. At the halfway stage, chasing 230, we would have fancied ourselves. Same old story. Very disappointed. I wasn’t sure about the dew, the gut feel said we should chase,” Buttler said in the post-match presentation.
Meanwhile, the English bowlers did well by taking wickets at regular intervals and restricting the in-form Indian batting line-up to 229/9.
Buttler said that he was happy after the first innings after the bowler’s incredible effort.
“That’s as good as we’ve been with the ball throughout the tournament. We created good pressure, we bowled well, took wickets. If you said we are chasing 230, we would have been happy with that,” he added.
Buttler looked disappointed with his and other batters’ performances as he admitted that there was no scoreboard pressure but nothing working well for England in this campaign thus far with five losses in six matches.
“Personally, I wanted to try and soak some pressure up, come through that phase and then build a partnership and sort of kill the momentum that India had. It’s about committing and executing your skill. Chasing 230, there wasn’t scoreboard pressure. It’s about trying to come through that phase. We are just falling short whichever way we are doing it at the minute. Our answers on a postcard, I think. Some top players and we are a long way short of our best,” he added.
