Emotional Marnus Labuschagne calls title win ‘best achievement’ he has been part of

An emotional Marnus Labuchagne hailed the World Cup 2023 title win as the best achievement he has been part of after Australia defeated India by six wickets on November 19 in Ahmedabad.

Australia clinched their record-extending sixth ICC Cricket World Cup title by defeating India in a gripping final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Australian team, led by Pat Cummins, showcased a strategic masterclass, opting to field first after winning the toss to avoid the challenges of a dewy ball later in the evening. This decision paid off as they restricted India to a modest total of 240 runs, despite half-centuries from Indian batsmen KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.

The Indian team, who had been on a dominant streak with ten consecutive wins leading up to the final, faced their first loss of the tournament when it mattered most. Australia’s bowling attack, complemented by sharp fielding, managed to stifle the Indian batting lineup. In response, Australia experienced an early stumble in their chase but were steadied by a magnificent century from opener Travis Head, who scored 137 runs. His partnership with Marnus Labuschagne, who remained not out at 58, was instrumental in guiding Australia to a comfortable six-wicket victory with seven overs to spare, silencing the largely Indian crowd of around 93,000 fans.

Speaking after the match was done, Labuschagne said, as quoted by Sky Sports, that the final win was unbelievable and the best achievement he has been part of. The Aussie batter said that they knew they had a chance against India if they played their best cricket.

Labuschagne hailed the sensational effort by the bowlers and Head on the day. The Aussie batter also thanked the team management for believing him after he was a late addition to the World Cup squad.

“What we have achieved today is unbelievable, it’s the best achievement I have been part of.”

“India have been the team of tournament but you knew if we played our best cricket we had a chance.”

“Our bowlers were sensational. Head put on a sensational display.”

“I’m a man of faith and believe in god but the way this has happened is unbelievable to me. I’m lost for words.”

“I’m thankful to the coaches for sticking with me,” said Labuschagne.
