England internationals Jofra Archer and Harry Brook were amongst the biggest names to be released by their respective teams ahead of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League.
A grand total of 85 players were released on the IPL 2024 retention deadline day on Sunday, November 26. Kolkata Knight Riders released the most number of players, letting go of 12 players. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals released 11 players each.
Several top English players were part of the list of released players. Archer, who has been battling multiple injury concerns, was shown the door by MI. Brook, who was the big-money buy by SunRisers Hyderabad last season, has also been released. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes and Joe Root opted to pull out of IPL 2024 due to workload management issues.
Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, Chris Jordan, Phil Salt and David Willey were the other English players released by their respective teams.
Sri Lanka spin-bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was let go by RCB after missing almost half of last season due to injury. Meanwhile, fellow Sri Lanka batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa was let go by Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2024.
Gujarat Titans, who were in the news regarding Hardik Pandya’s trade deal, retained their captain but released the likes of West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph and Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka.
Shahrukh Khan, Harshal Patel, Shivam Mavi, Umesh Yadav were among the big-name Indian players to be released.
