Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar heaped praises on West Indies star player Shamar Joseph played a huge role in their historic vicory against Australia on Sunday.
Shamar performed brilliantly in the second Test against Australia at the Gabba on Sunday. Joseph did sustain a toe injury at the stumps on the fourth day as his brilliant spell played a huge role in helping his team script history.
The Pat Cummins-led side were supposed to chase a gettable target of 216 runs and they went from 113/2 to 187/8 on the back of Joseph’s briliant spell. He also took the wicket of Cameron Green and Travis Head with consecutive balls, where Travis Head was dismissed for a duck for the second time in his match.
Joseph bowled at the speed of 150 km/hr and he took seven wickets and Josh Hazlewood was his last wicket and thats how they won the match by eight wickets. This was their first Test win in Australia in 27 years and also drew the series 1-1.
In the post-match press conference, Shamar Joseph, who won the Player of the match award, revealed that it was just about believing in onsef and acknowleding all the sacrifices he made in the past.
“I was crying but those were tears of joy, knowing that I’m doing this for my team, those were just tears of joy and happiness. It is just about believing, made a lot of sacrifice to get here, remembering what you did back then and it is just to continue from what happened in the past, so I just stick to my basics and take advice from the seniors and that worked for me well,” Shamar told in the post-match press conference.
Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to his official X account and lauded Shamar and said that his spell showed sheer grit the drama this format has.
“Shamar Joseph’s remarkable spell to claim 7 wickets highlights the sheer grit and drama of Test cricket. This is the format that truly challenges and showcases a player’s mettle. A key architect in scripting a historic victory for the West Indies in Australia after 27 years,” he said.
