Sri Lanka Womens chief selector Hemantha Devapriya has once again dragged himself into a “conflict of interest” debate after being appointed at high profile position. According to sources, Devapriya is still actively involved in coaching at Seenigama Accedemy to women cricketers, as well as at his private accedemy in Colombo.
“Although he is a women’s team national chief selector now, he still is a salaried coach at Senigama academy” a source told Cricket Age.
A coach for the past 15 years, Devapriya had roles with Colombo Cricket Club (CCC), Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) and Fingara Cricket Academy, before being in charge of the Sri Lanka A team. He also toured England in 1981 before his participation in the rebel tour to South Africa ended any chance he had to play for his country. He finished his first-class career with 1761 runs in 70 matches.
At NCC, he was a failed coach and at one time get them relegated. With A team also, he miserably failed as a coach and was eventually sacked.
In addition, Sripali Weerakkody, women selector, is still doing a full time job as fitness instructor on her own fitness centre and is not attending the matches.
Suwanji Madanayake, emergine selector, is also still working in a bank, doing radio commentary, but is not coming to see any club matches.
Meanwhile, Duminda Wickramasinghe, Junior selector, is still involved in his old job as emergine selector for Galle.
