Glenn Maxwell caught up with Rohit Sharma at the top of the men’s T20I centurions list after hitting his fifth hundred in the shortest format of the game. Maxwell achieved the landmark during the 2nd T20I between Australia and the West Indies at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, February 11.
Glenn Maxwell hit 120 off just 55 balls, smashing 8 sixes and 12 boundaries as Australia posted their highest T20I total against the West Indies – 241 for 4 in 20 overs at the Adelaide Oval. With his parents watching from the stands, Maxwell produced a sensational show of big-hitting against the West Indies bowling unit which ran out of ideas due to the onslaught.
This was also Glenn Maxwell’s 2nd hundred in T20Is in his last three matches in the format.
Glenn Maxwell had equalled Rohit Sharma’s tally at the top of the elite list last year when he hit 104 not out against India in Guwahati. However, the India captain went one ahead when he hit a hundred against Afghanistan earlier in January this year. Maxwell made sure he caught up with the Mumbai Indians star with a Big Show in Adelaide.
There were sweeps, reverse-sweeps, powerful hits to the mid-wicket boundaries as Glenn Maxwell flaunted his wide range and put on a show in Adelaide.
Maxwell enjoyed the atmosphere in Adelaide, saying his hundred in front of his parents broke a curse, revealing that he has not had memorable outings in the past when his parents watched him in action from the stands.
“It’s nice, got my parents here as well. I have had a few cursed Adelaide trips with them coming over to watch me. I broke my leg the last time they tried to come over to Adelaide. So it’s nice to have made this a positive one,” Maxwell told the broadcasters after his sensational 120.
