Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the dates for the 5th edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024. Thereby, Sri Lanka’s much-awaited T20 franchise cricket tournament is scheduled to be held from July 01 – 21 this year.
The 2024 season will again feature five teams, as it has from its inception. There will be 24 matches in all. The teams will play each other twice in the league stage, which will consist of 20 matches. There will then be a qualifier, an eliminator and a second eliminator, and the final – the same as with the IPL. Four of the five teams qualify for the playoffs, as they have done for the last three seasons.
Each team will consist of a minimum of 20 players and a maximum of 24 players with 6 overseas players.
The first three editions were won by teams bearing the Jaffna name (Stallions in the first season, Kings in seasons two and three), all captained by Thisara Perera. In 2023, B-Love Kandy, led by Wanindu Hasaranga (except for the final when he was injured), were victorious.
