England were hammered in the third Test match in Rajkot losing the game by a massive 434 runs. England suffered an epic collapse in the final innings of the match, getting bowled out for just 122 runs on Sunday, 18 February.
This was incidentally the lowest ever innings total for England in the Bazball era. They registered the unfortunate record by beating their previous tally of 141 runs against New Zealand in Lord’s, back in 2022.
The England team failed to tackle India spinners, despite the track showing no demons on Day 4 of the Test match. England looked rattled after India had put them to the daunting task of chasing down 557 runs in the third Test match. This was also England’s third-lowest total against India in the history of Test cricket.
At one point in time, it looked like England would get bowled out for their lowest ever innings total against India – 81 – registered back in 2021 under the captaincy of Joe Root. However, Mark Wood’s aggressive rearguard action (33 off 15) helped them go past 100 runs. England had suffered a collapse in the first innings in the Rajkot Test as well. They lost their last 8 wickets within a space of a hundred runs.
Pressure will pile on the England team, who have now lost back to back Test matches in the series. Despite all the talk about Bazball, the England team have not been able to perform with the bat, despite the Indian pitches not exhibiting their usual rank-turner characteristics from Day 1
