Former New Zealand cricketer and coach James Franklin is set to replace Dale Steyn as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. It will be the first coaching stint for Franklin who had represented Mumbai Indians in the 2011 & 2012 editions of the tournament. The former left-arm quick will join fellow New Zealander, Daniel Vettori who was appointed the head of the team last year.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Steyn has pulled out for personal reasons. In his absence, Franklin will operate with Vettori in the forthcoming season. Franklin had earlier served as a head coach at Durham and is currently working as an assistant coach at Islamabad United in PSL 2024. The duo of Franklin and Vettori has previously worked together for Middlesex in county cricket and Birmingham Phoenix, at the Hundred.
“We are in talks with him (Franklin) as Dale Steyn will not be available for this season,” news agency PTI quoted a source as saying.
Last year in August, the SRH Vettori as their new head coach, parting ways with Brian Lara following. Lara had replaced Tom Moody ahead of the last season as SRH made wholesale changes to their support staff and playing squad. South African Aiden Markram was named as their new captain after releasing Kane Williamson.
However, they endured a poor campaign, managing four wins in 14 matches to finish last in the 10-team competition.
